The sun kisses the earth and the vines give birth to the grapes. Viticulture has an extremely important historical role in Slovenia, and Vinica is a village that got its name from the Latin word for wine - vinitum. Vinica Castle continues the tradition with a wide selection of wines.
From defensive fort to tourist destination
The first written sources of Vinica Castle date back to 1082, however, the entire building shape was given in the 15th century. To defend against Turkish invasions, locals first built a tower above the St. Catherine's chapel, which is still preserved today. The castle was later built around the defensive tower and developed to Vinica Square. Throughout history, the castle contributed to many stories. With the help of the public tender Pokolpje, it was in 2015 renovated into a tourist facility that now continues the narration.
